Henry Hunt commemorative jug

Jug commemorating Henry Hunt, c. 1819.
This jug dates from around 1819. It commemorates Henry Hunt (1773-1835), who was a radical advocate of parliamentary reform and the repeal of the Corn Laws. Henry Hunt was the most eminent speaker to address a mass meeting which gathered at St. Peter's Fields, Manchester on 16 August 1819. This tragic events of this day quickly became known as the Peterloo Massacre.
