Dummy Windscale MK 1 fuel rod made by British Nuclear Fuels Plc, Springfields, 1962.

This is the type of fuel rod used in the Windscale nuclear reactor, Britain's first nuclear reactor, which opened in 1950. This reactor produced plutonium for Britain's weapons programme. It was obtained by processing the spent fuel elements from the reactor.
