Dummy PIPPA fuel rod made by British Nuclear Fuels Plc, Springfields, 1985.

PIPPA was the code name for the code name for the Pressurised Pile Producing Power and Plutonium at Calder Hall nuclear power station. This type of fuel rod was used at Calder Hall. It consists of a bar of natural uranium clad in a magnesium alloy can. Magnesium alloy was used because of its non-oxidising properties. This led to this type of reactor being known as Magnox reactors.
