Dummy intermediate-level radioactive waste, made by BNFL, Sellafield, 1990.

All radioactive waste needs to be disposed of safely. Radioactive materials are produced by nuclear power stations, hospitals and some manufacturing industries. Waste from nuclear power stations is classified as either high, intermediate or low waste. Intermediate waste includes materials such as nuclear fuel casing and reactor components. Such waste is mixed with concrete and stored in drums or tanks.
