Binatone TV Master Mk6 computer game with two hand controls, made in Hong Kong, 1983.

The TV Master Mk6 was an early home video game machine, which was part of a range of similar consoles offered by Binatone from about 1976 to the early 1980s. It needed to be plugged into a household television to use it. Games were controlled by turning the dials on the controllers or using a light-gun. It could only play six games, which were all built into its circuitry, either shooting or ‘pong’ type ball games. Although the TV Master’s games, graphics and sound were all very basic, machines like this were popular in the late 1970s, as they were easy to use and one of the few ways people could play home video games at the time. Binatone was founded in 1959 by brothers Gulu and Partap Lalvani. The firm came to specialise in importing electronic goods from East Asia to Britain, including radios and later electronic games.
