Gas-heated coffee roaster

From the 1840s, some commercial coffee roasters started converting from solid fuels like charcoal to gas burners as a heat source for roasting their beans. By 1910 when this roaster was made, gas models were established and widespread. Gas was preferred as it was cleaner, more controllable, and a more even heat source, producing a more even roast. This Uno coffee roaster has a gas flame heat source at the centre of the drum, and a handle for hand turning to ensure the beans stay in constant motion for an even roast. The exterior of the rotating drum is perforated to increase airflow, helping moisture to evaporate and allowing hot air to circulate.
