Ferranti F-100L Microprocessor, 1976, encased in plastic to create a commemorative desk ornament.

A microprocessor is a miniaturised Central Processing Unit. The invention of microprocessors made computers an everyday technology. Ferranti invested in pioneering semiconductor research, leading to its development of the first European microprocessor, the F-100L, at its Bracknell plant.
