Ferranti record player, 1956.

This is a prototype transistorised record player from Ferranti. There was a boom in portable record players in the 1950s, as the post-war generation were becoming more independent and teenagers were being recognised as a social group, and as a potential market for entertainment, especially new and expanding genres of popular music, like rock and roll, soul, jazz and blues.
