Padding or bookbinding press, made by James Salmon, Manchester, c.1910.

This press was used in the book binding process. Turning the large solid handle at the top of the apparatus lowers the top plate, applying pressure to the paper loaded in the press below. The press was used to flatten and bond sections of paper.
