Cone bobbin made by the Tuffa Bobbin Company, Watford

This tapered or cone shape bobbin is made from moulded plastic. The shape meant the thread unwound evenly, even at fast speeds.

The bobbin was used to fit over a spindle on a spinning machine used in the textile industry. The bobbin would have had a length of thread wound onto it, ready to be woven into cloth. Once empty of thread it could be rewound with thread and reused. A small length of thick white thread remains on the bobbin.
