Weaving shuttle for a ribbon loom

This wooden shuttle is for use in a loom designed to make ribbons.

This is one of several shuttles that worked across the width of the loom, each weaving a separate ribbon. The flat edge rested against the carriage, with the rounded edge facing towards the weaver.

Unlike Lancashire loom shuttles, the weft thread from the pirn leaves the shuttle from the central hole on the rounded edge rather than the side.
