'Walkman' personal cassette player made by the Sony Corporation, Malaysia, 1995, serial number 2804451, with a pair of Sony headphones.

As technology shrank and became cheaper more people bought small, personal media players that they could carry around with them. For the first time, we could walk down the street listening to whatever music we wanted, wherever we were. The Sony Walkman players were so popular that ‘Walkman’ became the unofficial term for all personal cassette players.
