Electronic music set up used by Julia Adamson at Strawberry Studios, Stockport, Greater Manchester.

Julia Adamson used this electronic music set up at Strawberry Studios, Yellow Two Studios and also on stage with The Fall. This set-up became redundant when it was replaced by a Mac in 1998. The Atari 520ST was the first computer to use midi for music programming. Used in conjunction with the Akai S1000 (for storage capacity), it gave musicians the opportunity to take electronic music further than simply using synthesisers. The S1000 could be recorded onto directly and it also read the floppy disks which held sound libraries of samples. The Atari 520STcould then be used to edit, programme, order and trigger the samples played. These objects were used in music recorded by The Fall, Inspiral Carpets and the Charlatans amongst other Manchester groups
