Globular hair dryer "Lady Schick Consolette" . Green-blue injection moulded plastic hemisphere containing hair drying apparatus.

Part of the Bob Gray collection of electrical objects.

At the time of its manufacture a permanent wave (or more usually a 'perm') was the fashionable hair style for women. Perming in the beauty salon required gentle hair dressing of the whole head without moving the hair too much. Globular hair dryers were invented for this purpose. This model is a home version of the same technology for thrifty women who wanted a home perm. It also took advantage of injection-moulded plastics for a smooth design and contemporary look.
