Clix foot operated 3 pin 15A socket. Made about 1950s.

At the time it was made most sockets were fitted close to, or in, the skirting board. It features a foot pedal to remove the need for bending down when switching on electrical appliances. This type of effort-saving device served the luxury end of the domestic market. It was expensively constructed. It was also expensive to fit as it was a flush-fitting device.
