Ceramic light fitting. Slip-moulded ceramic lamp holder with double curve, two fixing holes to back. Screws together with glass elongated domed light shade.
Part of the Bob Gray collection of electrical objects.
This lighting fitting was designed for use in a mid-twentieth century bathroom. The pale green colour is particularly distinctive of the period. The streamlined shape, curved and smooth, is influenced by modernism. It was probably bought by someone who kept up with the design trends and fashions of the time. Its glass and ceramic construction and fully-enclosed lamp made it safe for use in a damp environment. By the 1960s plastic had overtaken ceramic as a material for fittings such as this.
