Wylex consumer unit skeleton. Probably made in Wythenshawe in about 1980.

Brown cardboard box containing electrical component mounted on compressed fibre board with white phenolic plastic cover "fuses".

Part of the Bob Gray collection of electrical objects.

'Consumer unit' is the name for what was once called a fuse box. This unit is a skeleton. It could be used either to repair the essential element of a damaged unit or to be the core of a bespoke unit. Wylex were the dominant manufacturer of consumer units in the 1970s and 1980s.
