Box of ceramic connector blocks. Brown cardboard box containing white, square ceramic connectors. Niglon about 1965.

Part of the Bob Gray collection of electrical objects.

These connectors were used to join electrical cable or flex. They are made from glazed porcelain which is non-conductive, non-porous, and resistant to heat. They were made in the late 1960s or early 1970s by Niglon, a company which manufactured small electrical components in the Midlands. Porcelain was superseded for most uses in the 1960s when cheaper plastic-insulated blocks became available. It continued to be used in high-temperature applications.
