Electrolytic prepayment electricity supply meter. Made by British Insulated and Helsby Cables Ltd in 1910.
Using and consuming electricity can be expensive. Since the early 1900s, some people have used prepayment meters to control their spending on electricity. Consumers accessed their supply by inserting shilling coins into the slot and turning the handle. People were only able to use as much electricity as they could afford.
