Block switch, polished wood with brass fittings. Located on model railway layout, gauge 1, Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Signalling School, built 1912, by L&YR.

The block switch was used to demonstrate the procedure of 'switching' the signal box in or out of section, effectively taking a signal box in or out of use.
