Virgin Lobster 700 TV mobile phone, 2006-2007

2006-2007 in Taiwan

Virgin Lobster 700 TV mobile phone used with BT Movio digital television and radio service, made by Virgin, Taiwan, 2006-2007.

This mobile phone was sold for use with BT’s Movio service. It allowed mobile phone users to stream digital radio and television through their phones. It could only be used with the Lobster 700 from Virgin, and was launched at a time when other telecoms companies were focused on developing their own similar services on 3G mobile networks. Only five free-to-view channels were available on the Movio service, and these were unable to offer the full range of programmes due to problems with negotiating rights to programmes. The digital radio service was much more popular than the television streaming capabilities, which were often of poor quality. BT closed the service in 2007.
