IBM ThinkPad 365e laptop computer, with Russian Cyrillic alphabet stickers on the keyboard keys, with power supply and case, by IBM, Taiwan, 1997. This laptop computer was used in Helsinki, Finland.

In the early 1990s, the designers at IBM were determined to come up with a simple computer naming system, instead of the combination of the letters and numbers that often made up computer names and were indecipherable to most.

'THINK' had been a slogan at IBM since the 1920s, and eventually the name 'ThinkPad' was decided upon. The first ThinkPad was introduced in 1992, and in 1993, NASA took a one aboard the space shuttle 'Endeavour'. As of 2010, there were still 100 ThinkPads being used aboard the International Space Station.

This ThinkPad has Russian Cyrillic alphabet letters stuck on the keyboard, as the original owner was unable to find a Russian Cyrillic alphabet keyboard where he lived in Finland.
