Edward George Villiers Stanley, 17th Earl of Derby, (1865 - 1948) was a Conservative politician and MP for Westhoughton, Lancashire. He entered parliament in 1892 and served as Lord of the Treasury, Financial Secretary to the War Office and Post Master General until 1905. Stanley lost his seat in the 1906 General Election which was won by the Liberal party.
