Marble ointment pot, Egyptian, 3100-2134BC
This small ointment pot sat within the palm of the hand. It may have held medicines or ointments. The marble is shaped into an oval. It is hollowed to create a well in which ointment was stored. It may also have been used to mix ingredients that formed the basis of Egyptian cosmetics.
