Photograph entitled 'Lionel Tennyson' taken by Julia Margaret Cameron in 1864. Albumen contact print from wet collodion negative. This photographic portrait of Lionel Tennyson (1854-1886), the son of Alfred Tennyson (1809-1892), forms part of the Herschel Album, created by Cameron for her friend Sir John Herschel (1792-1871). Lionel was Alfred Tennyson's second son. He contracted malaria in India and never recovered, dying at sea when he was just thirty-two.
