Photograph entitled 'Anthony Trolloppe (sic)' taken by Julia Margaret Cameron in October 1864. Albumen contact print from wet collodion negative. This photographic portrait of author Anthony Trollope (1815-1882) forms part of the Herschel Album, created by Cameron for her friend Sir John Herschel (1792-1871). A post office official for over thirty years, Trollope claimed to have invented the post box. He wrote over forty novels as well as essays, short stories and travel books during his career. Trollope's best loved works include 'Barchester Towers', set in the fictional English county of Barsetshire.
