Super Astronaut robot with box packaging, manufactured by Horikawa, Japan, 1970s

The Super Astronaut robot toy first appeared in 1968 and became the source of numerous spin-off designs. It represents the mass-produced toy robots which played a key role of shaping public perceptions of the future forms and behaviours which robots would embody.
