High Wheel Gear Robot, manufactured by Yoshiya, Japan, 1964

This clockwork robot had many features for a relatively low retail price. As it walked, the gears in te chest rotated against a background oif sparks. Taking advantage of new technologies becoming available, the Gear Robot was later developed to include a remote control version - this is emblematic of the history of robots in general - that they very often incorporate the latest advances in technology, from new techniques to materials and other innovations.
