Watch with alarm in a pierced gilt case by Robert Grinkin, London c.1610. Engraved gilt-metal oval shaped case, with armorial bearings and pierced and engraved side. Alarm bell fixed to the inside of the case-back. Engraved gilt-metal dial, with steel hand and alarm disc with pointer in the centre. Movement with verge escapement, alarm-work, barrow regulator, balance spring of 1½ turns, pinned-on balance cock and pierced barrel. Backplate with engraved border and signed 'Ro Grinkin'. The balance-spring and regulator were added probably in the late seventeenth century. Purchased by the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers for their museum in 1968.

Robert Grinkin was a leading member of a group of makers who produced watches in the Flemish style in London in the first decade 17th century. He was a freeman of the Blacksmiths Company and served as its Master in 1609. Clockmakers Museum No. 6
