Watch in a long octagonal shaped silver case by Robert Grebauval, Rouen, France, c.1625. The case is engraved with the Biblical scene of Jacob's Dream on the reverse. Surrounding this are eight panels containing scenes of mediaeval towns, a winged cherub's head, foliage and animals. Engraved front cover with circular glass aperture, and pendent, both later. The arms of Papillon, Kent are engraved inside the back cover. Engraved gilt-metal dial with small applied silver hour ring and engraved pastoral scene to the centre. Steel hand with long tail. The movement has a train of three wheels, verge escapement and ratchet-wheel set up, now missing. Fusee with gut-line. Movement signed ‘Robert Grebauval A Rouen’. Purchased by the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers for their museum in 1863. Clockmakers' Museum No. 10
