Silver watch by James Vautrollier, London, c.1630. Plain round silver case, with a crystal set in the front cover, held by a ring. Plain silver dial plate, with a raised chapter ring with touch pins, to enable user to read the time in the dark. Single steel hand with a long tail. Movement with verge escapement, a train of three wheels, and a ratchet set-up regulator with steel tracery. Fusee with gutline instead of a chain. Oval-shaped balance cock. Movement signed 'James Vautrollier fecit'.

Vautrollier was known to be working in 1622 and was one of the first Assistants of the Clockmakers' Company on its incorporation. Clockmakers' Museum No. 17
