Egg-shaped watch by James Nellson

Silver watch by James Nellson, London c.1660. Plain silver egg-shaped case with bezel for glass (missing). Matt-gilt dial plate. Below is a silver chapter ring with an engraved scene to centre and steel hand, probably replacement. Above is a silver day-of-month ring and a turning silver disc with pointer inside. There is an outer circle of months; then a circle with signs of the Zodiac; then a circle with a series of figures corresponding to the months, starting with February. A steel hand indicates on the three circles. On the left a sector aperture shows days of the week and engraved figures. On the right, an aperture shows the moon's phases, with apertures above and below showing the moon's age and (probably) times of high tide at some place. Movement with verge escapement, train of three wheels, worm-and-wheel set-up regulator, and pinned-on balance cock with narrow table. Signed on the backplate 'James Nellson Londoni'.
