Pair cased watch by Anna Adamson, the inner case of gilt metal and the outer covered in leather with some pinwork. White enamel dial with steel hands. Fusee movement with verge escapement and balance cock pierced and engraved in a pattern of lilies. Signed ‘Anna Adamson fecit’ c.1690.

After working for a period in London, Anna left England to work as a watchmaker in a convent in Paris. Her sister is known to have become a specialist maker of piqué cases (piqué was the technique of studding leather or tortoiseshell watch cases with gold or silver pins).
