Pair cased watch by Christopher Egelton, London, c.1700. The inner case is plain silver, stamped 375, and outer case is covered in tortoiseshell with silver pinwork. Silver champlevé dial with large minute figures and a sunk repoussé centre with name plaques- the name has been erased. Tulip-shaped steel hands. Movement with verge escapement, and balance cock is decorated with birds, squirrels and foliage. Signed on the movement 'Chr. Egleton London 375'.

This watch was presented to the Company by the clockmaking brothers Benjamin and Justin Vulliamy in 1816, making it one of the earliest pieces in the Clockmakers' Museum collection. Described in the Company's 1849 catalogue as ‘Eagleton, Christopher London No. 375. App June 1683 to Charles Halstead. Silver Watch, silver dial, outer case Tortoiseshell pinn’d with Silver; in good preservation’.
