Silver pair cased watch by John Jefferys, London, 1753. Silver case stamped T.C. White eamel dial (blackened as a result of fire). Centre seconds. Harrison's special verge escapement with diamond pallets. Contains the first maintainin power and first temperature compensation ever fitted to a watch. Signed "John Jefferys London" on back plate and "John Jefferys. London AD 1753" on dust cap. This was Harrison's personal pocket watch and the prototype for his prize-winning 4th Marine Timekeeper.
