Gold-cased watch by Czapek & Cie, Geneva, Switzerland, c.1840. The back of the case is enamelled with a portrait of a military officer painted using the grisaille technique. White enamel dial with steel hands. Movement with cylinder escapement, and signed ‘Czapek et Cie Genève No. 2522’. Czapek were the forerunners of the modern firm, Patek Philippe. Presented to the Clockmakers' Museum by Smiths Industries Ltd., in 1968. Clockmakers' Museum No. 382.
