'Mystery' watch by Armand Schwob & Frère, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland c.1900. Gilt-metal case with keyless winding. Transparent dial with gold coloured hands, with chased silver-plated border, signed on the rear ‘AS&F Mysterieuse’. Movement with cylinder escapement. The motion-work is hidden behind the silver border and is geared with clear glass discs which carry the hands. This has the effect of making the hands appear unconnected to any driving mechanism. Clockmakers Museum No. 391.
