Self-winding wristwatch by John Harwood, England. c. 1928. Silver case stamped 925, with glazed back. No winding button. Brown leather strap. Silvered dial with a chequerboard pattern signed 'Harwood', and golden numerals. Golden hands. Jewelled movement with lever escapement, adjusted to 2 positions. 'Bumper' type of winding weight, signed 'Harwood Self Winding Watch Co. Ltd'. Signed on the movement 'Patent No 106583'. In the absence of a winding button the knurled bezel around the dial rotates which enables the hands to be set. A red dot appears within an aperture on the dial to indicate when the hand-set function is disengaged. Clockmakers' Museum No. 509
