Drum shaped clock by unknown maker, Germany, 1550-1575. Engraved gilt-metal canister case, the side engraved with three busts and foliage. Cover engraved with the bust of a soldier with surrounding wreath. Gilt dial with hour figures I-XII and 13-24 and central sun. Replacement hand. Movement with three wheels, a characteristic long fusee and verge escapement with balance. Ratchet set-up. Movement and plates all made of iron. Brass contrate and escape-wheels are replacements, and the original balance was probably of larger diameter. The back is stamped 'C'.
