Marine chronometer by Brockbanks, London, c. 1802. Gimballed mahogany box, white enamel dial with gold hands, signed on the dial 'Brockbanks London'. Movement with spring detent escapement, the passing-spring of which is planted separately from the detent, a three-arm compensation balance with stops to limit the movement of the arms, and a special arrangement to prevent over-banking. Movement contained within brass cannister, signed on the base, 'Brockbanks, London, No. 568'. Presented to the museum of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers by Samuel Elliott Atkins in 1896.
