Spring driven, striking, table clock by Johnson, London c.1780. Arched-top case, veneered in mahogany with brass mounts, carrying handle and arched scalloped sound frets to the sides. Round silvered dial, signed 'Johnson, Gray's Inn Passage' and surrounded by gilt-brass spandrels, with blued steel hands. Silvered strike/silent dial in the case's arch, also surrounded by spandrels. Movement with verge escapement, rack striking, and of 8-day duration. Plain backplate with border engraving only, signed in an oval ‘Johnson, Gray’s Inn Passage’. Clockmakers' Museum No. 1074.
