A lantern, or house clock of twelve hours duration with (replaced) balance escapement. Mannerist frame. The dial engraved with naïve floral pattern and grotesque mask. Characteristic reversed ‘X’s from nine to twelve o’clock. The frets bear the mark of the brass founder ‘I.S.’ or ‘S.I.’. Signed ‘Francis Foreman at St. Paules gate’. London, c.1630.
Foreman personally presented the petition for the Clockmakers’ Charter to the King. He was an original subscriber and served as one of the first Assistants.
