A very high quality horizontal sundial, set out to show individual minutes and signed ‘Elias Allen fecit’. London, c.1630

The dial was calculated for a latitude of 53 N, a line running roughly from Mount Snowdon to the Wash. Extraordinarily, the dial contains a mistake. The 32 point compass rose, with each point individually named, is reversed.
