Late 17th century framed oil on canvas painting, depicting a still life of a carpeted table, with a number of objects on its surface, including a flagoon, book and an accurate representation of a watch. Painting attributed to P. G. van Roestrataeten.
Pieter Roestraten (1627 – 1700) was a pupil of Franz Hals, whose daughter Ariaentge he married in 1654. Roestraten moved to London where Sir Peter Lely introduced his work to King Charles II. This painting, which includes an accurate depiction of a watch, belonged to the Royal Clockmaker Benjamin Lewis Vulliamy (1780 – 1854), one of the founders of the Clockmakers’ Museum.
