Upper denture set, acrylic, for demonstration purposes, English, 1955-1965
More
Probably intended for dentists to demonstrate the technology to their patients or by denture manufacturers marketing their products, this example is made from acrylic. This was a plastic first used for dentures in the 1930s, to replace traditional materials such as ivory. Dentures in the United Kingdom were initially available free of charge from 1948 with the introduction of the National Health Service (NHS), but demand was so great and the price so high that by 1951 patients had to contribute towards costs.
