REEM Service Robot
2016
REEM Service Robot, with PC control unit and switch mode power supply, by PAL Robotics SL, Barcelona, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, 2016
REEM is a service robot designed to work alongside people. Launched in 2012 by PAL Robotics, 7 robots had been built as of 2016.
REEM is hired out by companies and organisations hoping to add spectacle to events and promotions. REEM has been used as a receptionist, guest greeter, master of ceremonies and visitor guide.
REEM’s technology enables it to work in real human environments and interact freely with people.
REEM is programmed to map its surroundings and navigate independently to avoid collisions with people and obstacles, using its cameras and laser, sonar and infrared sensors, track, record and recognise faces, answer simple questions verbally and by using its touch-screen display, and run without needing to be plugged in – at eight hours its battery life is one of the longest among full-sized humanoid robots.
