De Vere 50 inch Long Focus Camera and Stand. Ross lens, 50" telephoto f.8, No 9789. One of the last 'Long Toms' produced by Fleet Street, and used by George Greenwell of the Daily Mirror on Coronation Day, 2 June 1953.

The longer the focal lengthe of a lens the larger image it produces in the camera in relation to the negative size. The fifty inch focal length of this lens enabled the photographer to take pictures of distant scenes, such as the newly crowned Queen and her Consort appearing on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
