Trip hammer, treadle-operated, used by William Brooke and Sons Ltd, wholesale ironmongers, iron merchants, nut and bolt manufacturers, Hyde. Used in a forge, for making nails and other small ironworking. Approximately 1800-1900.

This treadle-operated hammer was used in an ironmonger's forge. Treadle-operated power hammers like this reduced the need for human strikers to hammer the workpiece by hand.
