LED lamp, 'The Graphene Light Bulb', Graphene Lighting PLC, 2016. Warm white effect, 60W equivalent with standard domestic E27 screw fitting, EU Energy Rating A++. In original packaging. This was the first commercially available product available in the UK using 2D material graphene.

This LED lightbulb filament is coated in graphene to remove heat more efficiently so the lamp uses less electricity and lasts longer. In the 2020’s Graphene is making significant changes to products to make them more efficient and sustainable.

Graphene was first isolated at the University of Manchester in 2004 by Sir Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov, for which they were awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 2010. Sir Andre Geim, said about using graphene in a lightbulb: 'By incorporating graphene technology into existing LED manufacturing, the lifetime of this LED lamp increased twice (typically, to 20 years) and graphene saves additionally up to 8% in electricity costs (resulting in graphene-related savings of more than $10 over the lifetime [of the lamp]).'

Graphene Lighting PLC is one of over 100 companies working in partnership with the National Graphene Institute (NGI) at The University of Manchester to create working applications of graphene. In July 2016 Graphene Lighting PLC merged with JTX, a China based LED manufacturer.
