Cardboard development model of the Beagle 2 Mars lander by Professor Colin Pillinger, made by Shusanah Pillinger, the daughter of Colin and Judith Pillinger, England, 1997
This is the first physical model to be made of the Beagle 2 Mars lander concept. It was made to help promote the project when Professor and Dr Pillinger visited a conference in Ireland. At the tiime the design was basic and cuboid-based, a far way from what would become the familiar 'clam shell' configuration that actually travelled to an landed on Mars. The model was made by the Pillinger's daughter on her kitchen table in Cambridge.
